Guy Mayer - “Passenger”

Everybody loves a groovy indie-pop track, and Guy Mayer has delivered exactly that with his debut single “Passenger.” This quick 2-minute tune wastes no time, getting your head bobbing in the first couple bars. The vocal melody on the hook feels familiar but fresh, blending a lyrical rap style with some modern indie staples. The vocal performance is reminiscent of hits by artists like Frank Ocean or Steve Lacy, and the instrumental track serves that same perfectly cultivated vibe.

Mayer collaborated with Jaxon Taylor and Noah Johnson on the composition, with Johnson contributing to production as well. The trio worked to put together a rock solid arrangement that primarily features an electric guitar, bass, and drum tracks. Around a minute and a half into “Passenger,” a saxophone enters the mix, adding a new layer and serving the track perfectly before passing the solo on to another electric guitar. This track wastes no time and relies on nothing but a great vocal melody and tasteful instrumental performances to keep each and every listener coming back.

“Passenger” is the first release by Guy Mayer and serves as a perfect launch for what is sure to be an exciting and routinely satisfying discography. Whoever this “passenger” may be, we here at CTRC are looking forward to joining them and Mayer on this ride.
